casey's up to bat
rocky, slugger, babe. we ran through the possible new nicknames over dinner. this picture doesn't quite do justice to the event but you might get the idea. his eye doesn't normaly look like that.
i was outside painting so i can't be certain of the order of events. i came inside after amy called to me from the front door. no exposition just - jake, come inside. no panic in her voice but i could tell it wasn't optional or at my leave. once inside the daughter was stripped down to her shirt and diaper, holding a half eaten banana and was screaming. this gave me no pause as mine eyes are acustomed to such things. i make my way to the bathroom. amy is there, a bit pale looking, her front soaked as if some thing has been poured on her. the son is sprawled on the floor, looking up, a stick used to stir cans of paint in his hand. his eye blugeoned. appearantly this is what occured: the boy, who had been practicing his baseball swing using the stir stick as a bat had the unction to go pee. this is a good thing, we're quite proud of his ability to self urinate. he came inside, began the process of going potty, pants around ankles, when he figures, based on the feedback from his bladder, that he has time for at least one, maybe two, more swings. this must have been quite a swing. he over swung, as 3.5 year olds are wont to do, but the batman underwear at his ankles did not allow for his footing to be found. instead, he fell headlong at the tub where his eye took the brunt of the fall. at least he went down swinging.
amy harkened to the clatter, picked up the boy, eye already black, screaming, when his bladder decided it could wait no longer. i don't have a picture of that.
